Where Passion Meets Possibility: 2016/2017 Community Report

Friends -as you may know, in our professional lives, Amber and I work for the Town.  This blog is our chance to share what we love about the community we work in and shine a spotlight on the great work that goes on here.  Another project that we've had the opportunity to be part of is the 2016/2017 Community Report.  This report is put together by Town staff and is a look back on all of the amazing things that have happened in 2016 and 2017.

2016 and 2017 were big years! Think - the Hip had their farewell tour ('16) and then we said goodbye to Gord ('17).  Prince Harry and Meghan Markle went public about their relationship ('16) and then got engaged ('17) and the USA elected President Trump ('16) and Canada celebrated it's 150th ('17).

Newmarket had quite the run as well - our Main Street was voted best in Canada ('16) and hosted York Region Pride for the first time ('17).  The town got it's first Solar powered bench ('16) and added 9 more ('17).  The Town got Hip, with an outdoor screening of The Tragically Hip's last concert ('16) and unveiled new space for celebrations, culture and art at Old Town Hall ('17).  These highlights and more are captured in the most recent community report.

It is back from the printers today and you get one of the first looks! The report this year, really highlights for me that Newmarket is a place where beauty, nature, business and culture all converge to create an amazing place to spend time.

The report is full of faces of local residents who are passionate about this community. From little Easton Chard, who's #lifegoal is to be a Firefighter to The Elwins who are #livingthedream right now, playing music and being featured on 102.1 The Edge.  (In fact, the Elwins like Newmarket so much, that they named their most recent album "Beauty Community" after us and filmed their music videos all in Newmarket.)

Check out the 2016/2017 report here and then go check out the featured places yourself!
