Dine al fresco on these amazing patios

Dining Al Fresco (outside "in the cooler air") is one of the many joys of this time of year. July can be too hot at night but as August days shorten- the evening weather cools just a touch and dining under the glow of twinkly lights takes on a whole other level of perfection.  Even this year - when the days at crazy warm - the evenings have a refreshing feel to them that should be enjoyed to the fullest.

Whenever I travel in Europe, I marvel at the culture of eating outdoors. Even in the cooler months, restaurants put out tables that more than double their dining space.  They add cute blankets and you cuddle up close - romantic much?

In Newmarket, we have on street patios that can be open as late as October 29th this year.  Typically, patios tend to close up a bit earlier than that so crisp fall dining might be out of the question but I still think that the ambiance is great in late summer.  Between the twinkle lights, the amazing assortment of foods to be found here and the amazing streetscapes, Newmarket patios have become my go-to.  I contend that there isn't much better than enjoying time with loved ones over a great meal in the outdoors.

Here are a few patios that I tend to frequent - whether for the great decor and atmosphere or the amazing food and beverage menus.

SnackMarket: Relatively new to Town, this venue has all the feeling of an urban rooftop patio, right in the historic heart of Newmarket.  The patio wraps around the outside of the restaurant and peaks out over the river.  Sitting on the patio you can have views of the waterfall, graffiti art and brick facades.  SnackMrkt has an overall urban vibe, from the photobooth indoors and funky wallpaper to the sharing plates and extensive drink menu.

Hungry Brew Hops/Lil Brew HopsTechnically two separate restaurants but the side by side patios make it feel all like one.  Hungry Brew Hops (HBH) is known for its craft beer selections, elevated pub style food and epic interior design.  Lil Brew Hops is more of a mixology type of place with sharing plates and artisanal handcrafted cocktails.  Both patios are in the heart of the historic downtown and provide that on street bustle vibe, more often found in bigger cities.

The Grey Goat: A little further North on Main Street will take you to the Grey Goat Pub and Grill - toted as the oldest pub in Newmarket.  The patio is up off of the street and provides great views. This pub is a music lovers paradise with Karaoke every Thursday night and  live music most weekends - including during Sunday brunch.

Cachet Restaurant and Bar:  If you are looking for a large, waterfront patio, Cachet it the place. It looks out onto Fairy Lake and is surrounded by beautiful flowers in the summer months.  This patio is the perfect place for a date night or to go out with the pals and relax after a crazy week at work.

There are so many great patios to sit and enjoy the last days of summer in Newmarket.  Whether you are into Mexican food (Made in Mexico anyone?) or pub style (Ground Burger Bar has an awesome experience) or you just want to grab a delicious brunch (The Maid's Cottage) - there is a place for you here!
